Get to know Mesquite, TX

Mesquite is a suburb east of Dallas.  It was founded along the Texas & Pacific Railroad in 1878 and the city quickly began to grow.  It was incorporated in 1887 and prospered as a farming community.  A suburban boom began following the end of the second World War.  1958 saw the establishment of the Mesquite ProRodeo and the following year the Big Town Mall, the first air conditioned shopping complex in America, opened.  The city has seen consistent growth in the population.  The largest employer in Mesquite is United Parcel Service Inc., followed by Dallas Regional Medical Center.  Famous residents of Mesquite have included Terry Fator and Jerry Hall.
