Get to know DeSoto, TX

DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas in the area known as Best Southwest.  It is one of the oldest communities in North Texas, first settled in 1847.  The community was named in honor of a community doctor, Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart.  After the population fell below 100 people by 1930, DeSoto experienced growth with the end of World War II.  The City of DeSoto was created when it was incorporated in 1949.  The city continued to grow throughout the twentieth century, experiencing rapid growth in the 1970s, leading to infrastructural improvements.  In 2006, DeSoto received the prestigious All-American City designation by the National Civic League, recognizing the community’s commitment to working together to recognize and tackle community challenges.
