Get to know Carrollton, TX

The city of Carrollton is a suburb of Dallas and has been considered among the best places to live in the nation.  The city began being settled in the 1840s when a mill was started.  The original home of many of the early settlers was Carrollton, Illinois and it is believed this is how the city received its name from.  Originally an agricultural stronghold, the area began to grow in industrial significance with the construction of the Dallas-Wichita-Railroad in the area in 1878.  The gravel industry began in 1912 and by the late 1940s had transformed the city into a “grain and gravel” town.  Carrollton has seen growth since its incorporation in 1913, with a boom occurring after World War II between 1950 and 1990.  Halliburton Energy Services is the top employer in the city.  Famous residents have included Melissa Rycroft and Vanilla Ice.
