Get to know McKinney, TX

The city of McKinney is located about 37 miles north of Dallas.  The city is named after the Texas Declaration of Independence signer and congressman Collin McKinney.  The community began in the 1840s when William Davis donated some of his land for the town site.  For more than 100 years, it served as the principal commercial center for the county.  It also served as a center for agribusiness until 1970.  While the town continued to grow modestly throughout the twentieth century, it has seen an explosion in population since 2000.  The largest employers in McAllen are Raytheon and the McKinney Independent School District.
