Get to know College Station, TX
Located in the center of the Brazos Valley, College Station is in the middle of the Texas Triangle region. The city is known as the home of Texas A&M University and is often referred to as CStat by students. It came into existence and got its name from the University’s location next to the Houston and Texas Central Railway. What would become Texas A&M was founded in 1876 to celebrate the nation’s centennial. It was the first public institution of higher education in Texas. It is considered the most educated city in Texas and the 11th-most educated city in the nation. The population saw huge growth following World War II. In 1997 the George Bush Presidential Library was opened, drawing national attention to College Station. Some of the major employers in the city include Texas A&M University System, Bryan Independent School District and H-E-B Grocery.
