Get to know Cedar Park, TX

Cedar Park is one of Austin’s major suburbs, just 16 miles southeast of downtown.  The area of Cedar Park was originally inhabited by Native Americans, including the Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, and Comanche tribes.  In 1983, a paleo-American archaeological site was found, providing evidence that the area had been inhabited since 5000 BC.  Europeans began coming to the area in the 19th century and dubbed it Running Brushy after a spring that formed the headwaters of a creek with the same name.  The community received its current name in 1887 from Emmett Cluck, the son George and Harriet Cluck whose ranch made up the core of the community at the time.  Cedar Park did not see much change until the 1950s and 1960s when subdivisions sprung up to accommodate growth in Austin.  The population of Cedar Park has consistently increased over the years, even seeing population booms sporadically.
