Get to know Bryan, TX
The city of Bryan is located in the Brazos Valley, just north of College Station. It is named after one of the early settlers of the area, William Joel Bryan, who was the nephew of Stephen F. Austin. In 1876 Texas A&M College opened nearby and the following year the Bryan Independent School District was established. Although modest, the city has seen consistent growth since its inception. The Carnegie Library of Bryan opened in 1902 after a generous grant from Andrew Carnegie. In 1936 State Highway 6 was built, running directly through Bryan. Some of the main employers include Texas A&M University, Bryan Independent School District, and Sanderson Farms. Notable residents of the city have included historian R.J.Q. Adams and actor Rico Rodriguez.
