Get to know Abilene, TX

Settled and incorporated in 1881, Abilene is known as the Key City and the Friendly Frontier.  The city got its moniker from the Kansas cattle town of the same name.  The city is known for its nationally ranked public education system.  Notable attractions include the Abilene Zoo, the 12th Armored Division Museum, and Frontier Texas!, a museum dedicated to the American West.  The West Texas Fair each September draws visitors to enjoy exhibits showcasing the early days of Abilene as well as modern attractions.  The largest employers in Abilene include the Dyess Air Force Base, Hendrick Health System, and the Abilene Independent School District.  Notable residents have included Jessica Simpson, MLB pitcher John Lackey, and lawyer Sarah Weddington.
