The city of East Orange lies in Essex County, next to Newark. It originally was incorporated as a township before being reincorporated as a city in 1899. East Orange lies less than 8 miles from Newark Liberty International Airport. The city’s population has seen consistent decline since the 1960’s. Parts of the city lie in the Urban Enterprise Zone, which enjoys a reduced sales tax in an effort to encourage employment.
