The city of Bayonee is connected to Staten Island via the Bayonee Bridge. It had been home to Native Americans before being claimed as part of New Amsterdam by incoming Huguenots. It initially began as a township in 1861, but was later reincorporated as a city in 1869. Portions in the city are in the Urban Enterprise Zone which enjoys a reduced sales tax to encourage employment. Traditional manufacturing, distribution and maritime activities make up the economy. Popular attractions include the Bayonee Bridge and the annual Bayonee Hometown Fair. Famous residents have included Tammy Blanchard, Sandra Dee, and George R.R. Martin.
