Get to know West Chicago, IL

Located about 35 miles west of Chicago on the edge of DuPage County is West Chicago. One of the first major settlers in the area was Erastus Gary, whose son Elbert Gary would become CEO of U.S. Steel and the namesake of Gary, Indiana. From its early days, West Chicago was a railroad town. Railroads that went through the city included C&NW and the CB&Q. The largest employers in the city include Jel Sert, which makes Flavor Ice freeze pops, and General Mills. Famous residents of the city include former NFL running back Scott Dierking and U.S. congressman Harris W. Fawell.
