Get to know Plainfield, IL
Almost 40 miles southwest of Chicago lies the Will County village of Plainfield. Known as Walkers’ Grove until 1841, Plainfield is known as the earliest settlement in Will County. The community flourished in its early years from its location on the DuPage River, providing lumber, mail, and supplies to the city of Chicago. Plainfield functioned primarily as an agricultural town until a deadly tornado in 1990 saw a subsequent population increase. Although it had seen consistent increases in population, Plainfield exploded in the 1990’s, and the creation of residential subdivisions increased.
