Get to know Naperville, IL

One of Chicago’s western suburbs, the affluent community of Naperville has consistently been voted as one of the wealthiest and best places to live in the United States.  Originally settled in 1831 by the Naper brothers, it was first incorporated as a village in 1857 and reincorporated as a city in 1890 as the population swelled.  The city is home to a large Park District, which includes the scenic Naperville Riverwalk on the DuPage River.  The largest employers include Edward Hospital, Nicor, and Alcatel-Lucent, which is now owned by Nokia. Naperville has has consistent population growth in every Census since 1870, with enough people moving to Naperville each year to sustain double digit increases each decade since 1950, including a triple digit increase in the 1980’s. The most common reason for people leaving Naperville is because of rising rents.
