Get to know Gurnee, IL
Gurnee is a middle class northern Chicago suburb located halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. The village is named in honor of the 14th mayor of Chicago, Walter S. Gurnee, who helped develop a railroad station that ran through the town. It is known for its enormous, 2 million square feet shopping mall as well as Six Flags Great America. Gurnee experienced significant population after 1950, but has begun to slow since 2010. Most people move from Gurnee in order to be closer to work.
