Glen Ellyn is an affluent suburb about 25 miles west of Chicago. Settled in 1834 and incorporated in 1892, Glen Ellyn was a halfway point between Chicago and the Fox River Valley. Attractions in this bedroom community include Lake Ellyn, a man-made lake created in 1889 when a stream was dammed, and the private golf course Glen Oak Country Club. The village is the location of main campus of the College of DuPage, whose famed alumni include John and James Belushi. Population growth has slowed in recent decades after experiencing growth in the mid-twentieth century.
