Get to know Carol Stream, IL
Carol Stream is a western suburb of Chicago located in DuPage County. There is not an actual stream in the village. Instead the community was named in honor of founder Jay Stream’s daughter, who had been critically injured while the community was still in development, but later recovered. Although the town’s namesake never lived in the municipality, she regularly participates in anniversary celebrations and is a local celebrity when she visits. The 1950’s farm land that became Carol Stream was formed to promote corporate growth, so there are few natural attractions or historic landmarks in the village. The top employers include an engineering firm, a heavy industrial manufacturing firm and a shipping company. The number one reason people cite for moving away from Carol Stream is to be closer to their job.
