Get to know Aurora, CO
One of Chicago’s far western suburbs, Aurora is the second most populous city in Illinois. It became known as the City of Lights for the entirely electric lighting system they implemented in 1881. The Fox River runs through Aurora, which houses a riverboat casino and other intriguing structures. Aurora has a historical collection of architecture, with many structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Aurora’s population began growing in the 1960’s, and has doubled in size since 1990. Aurora served as the setting for the famous Wayne’s World skit on Saturday Night Live that inspired two feature films. The most prominent employers are Caterpillar, Rush-Copley Medical Center, as well as the public school systems. The most common reason people move away from Aurora is to be closer to their work.
