Get to know Torrance, CA

The city of Torrance is located in Los Angeles County’s South Bay region.  In the early 1900’s real estate developer Jared Sidney Torrance sought to create a mixed-use residential community south of Los Angeles.  The town was founded in 1912 and named after Torrance.  The city was incorporated in 1921.  Torrance boomed following World War II as it grew into an aerospace manufacturing town.  It was the birthplace of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO).  Torrance is the home of several businesses, including the U.S. headquarters of American Honda Motor Company, which is the major employer in the city.  The oil industry and aviation are also important to the city economy.  Famous residents have included Chuck Norris, Michelle Kwan, and Louis Zamperini
