Get to know South Gate, CA

Roughly 7 miles southeast of Downtown Los Angeles lies the city of South Gate.  The city fell in the boundaries of the Lugo land grant during the Spanish era.  The land became housing tracts in the 1870’s.  Cattle raising became the economic base in the 1880’s replacing agriculture.  From 1910 to 1940,  homes and factories were built, erasing most of the agriculture land.  The city was incorporated in 1923.
