Get to know Hesperia, CA

Hesperia lies in Victor Valley 35 miles north of San Bernardino.  The townsite was laid out in 1891 by land developers of the U.S. & Santa Fe Railroad.  The town was named for the Greek god of the west, Hesperus.  The area grew slowly until the 1940’s when Routes 66, 91, and 395 were finished.  In the 1950’s land developer M. Penn Phillips and boxer Jack Dempsey financed development in the area, but the largest influx of people did not occur until the 1980’s.  In 1988 Hesperia was incorporated as a city.  The top employers in the city are the Hesperia Unified School District and the County of San Bernardino.
