Get to know Delano, CA
Delano is a city in Kern County. It began as a railroad town in 1869 as the terminus of the Southern Pacific Railroad line from San Francisco. The railroad named the town after Columbus Delano, the Secretary of the Interior at the time. It was incorporated in 1913. In addition to the rail activity, Delano became important agriculturally. It was a hub for farmworker organization efforts and the Chicano movement in the 20th century. The city’s main industry is agriculture, with table grapes playing a special role. The top employers include a number of farms as well as Wonderful Citrus and Columbine Vineyards.
