The city of Anaheim lies in Orange County and is home to Disneyland. The city began in 1857 when 50 German-Americans from San Francisco purchased the land for a vineyard. The name translates to “home by the Santa Anna River” from German. The area was largely rural until the mid 20th century. It was home to landowners who farmed various crops, including oranges. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the city quickly changed. Today it was on of the world’s most popular tourist attractions. Hotels and motels quickly popped up, increasing home values. Tourism drives the economy of the city, with The Walt Disney Company acting as the largest employer. In addition to the Disneyland Resort, the Anaheim Convention Center is another source of tourism, hosting a number of conferences throughout the year. The city is home to the Angels of the MLB and the Ducks of the NHL.
