Schaumburg is a middle class northeastern Chicago suburb in Cook County. Initially a rural community, the village became less isolated with the advent of the automobile, and began to transform in 1959 when a large suburban development was built by Alfred Campanelli. Some of the popular attractions include the Woodfield Mall, which is the 11th largest mall in the United States, and Spring Valley nature preserve. Incorporated in the 1950’s, Schaumburg experienced rapid population growth from the start, but tapered off in the 2010’s. A change in employment is the most common reason people leave Schaumburg.
