Glendora is a Los Angeles County city in the San Gabriel Valley. It is an affluent city known as the “Pride of the Foothills.” In the Mexican era, the city had been part of Rancho San Jose. It was founded in 1887 by George D. Whitcomb. The name came from the location in a glen combined with Whitcomb’s wife’s name, Leadora. The City of Glendora was incorporated in 1911. The city’s top employers are the Glendora Unified School District and Citrus College. Notable residents have included Rocky Dennis and Soleil Moon Frye, who were both born in Glendora.
