BUYERS BEWARE! THIS COMPANY IS AWFUL! We were promised that they were handing our move and shipping it themselves. They brokered it to two different companies. It was brought to a sorting facility and repackaged onto a different truck without our knowledge causing an extreme amount of damage to our items as well as left us without some of our stuff. Boxes were supposed to be labeled and numbered. Upon arrival Some boxes had no numbers, some had two, the numbers on the items did not correspond to the written list of what each number should be. Making it almost impossible to check if items were missing or to report that things arrived broken. Boxes arrived smashed and wet. A mattress was wet in transport it reeks like mildew and we just purchased it before our move. It was also wrapped in plastic so there's no reason for it to be wet at all. A vanity is broken, a cat litter box house is missing parts and unable to stand together any longer, a standing jewelry mirror armoire is missing a leg where it no longer stands, a picture frame came smashed, our elliptical came in pieces and there are pieces missing, dressers were kissing knobs, nightstands were missing knobs with the wood stripped so they can't even be repaired, a wooden perfume organizer arrived in pieces, parts of our bed frames were missing making them unable to be put back together, lamps arrived without lightbulbs and leaning to a point where they no longer will stand on their own, a large coffee table is missing a leg, our brand new deep freezer has dents all over it, our bean bag chair was placed in dirt and arrived filthy, several boxes and items of sentimental value are missing. When contacted we were ignored, when we were finally contacted we were hung up on when we discussed how some items that are missing are our deceased mothers and how we are upset about this. They deny saying that they wouldn't be brokering out our move yet I have emails showing them giving us their trucks DOT numbers and saying they will be handling our items directly. Horrible customer service and awful treatment of our items. We have enough to buy when purchasing a new home, we shouldn't have to replace stuff we trusted this company to bring to us safely. We paid for the weight to ship all of these items that are now useless as well. If I was going to buy all new stuff I wouldnt have paid to move it at all. Attached are just a FEW of the pictures of how they treated our stuff. We were literally hung up on by CJ when we aired our concerns, this company's service and customer relations is just disgusting. They should be ashamed! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!! read less

Avoid Gateway Movers and save money. They will try to increase your cost and will not standby the estimate. Truly a scam and a terrible experience.

TL;DR Do not use this company. They are not rated by BBB. Use my story as a cautionary tale. I would wish this company on anyone. The price of my moved jumped from $5,0000 to $8,000 (plus additional fees at time of delivery) at the time of pick up. Despite having provided them with a complete inventory of goods (even having sold a desk, armoire, and rug- opening up more space I had paid for on the truck), and using their algorithm to calculate the amount of boxes for a one bedroom move, they determined I needed almost 300 sq ft more than what they sold me, resulting in the massive price increase. No one could tell me how it was so grossly underestimated when having an inventory of my belongings. The delivery was made 14 days PAST the 21 day window for delivery. When I filed for compensation, my claim was denied based on "a recording" they claim to have where I was not available for the initial delivery date. When pressed, they will not share with me/play for me the recording they had used to base their decision on.In addition to the pricing nearly doubling, the extreme lateness of my delivery, I also encountered issue with the moving team. I hired the movers to pack, and when they arrived (at 4 pm instead of the 9-11 am window they were scheduled) they were totally unaware of packing part of the contract. And while they were at my house, they repeatedly made inappropriate comments and advances toward me.I am a woman who was making this move alone and because of this the driver other mover saw no issues with repeatedly asking me for my phone number, asking if I would date someone with children, or telling me how much more attractive I would be if I grew my hair out. Fearing possible violence that could happen if I rejected their advances, I tried to ignore their advances and leave the room after each time it happened. I spoke with one woman in customer service who was apologetic and recommended I file a complaint; I also mentioned it to the employee working with my claim. He accused me of bringing it up "at the last minute" despite having spoken with CS about it. He had claimed to have listened to all of my recorded conversations, but claims he never heard the exchange between me and the CS associate about the situation. He followed up by giving me his opinion on how I should have reacted in the situation and because I did not tell them to stop, I must have not "actually" felt unsafe. That is just a fraction of the issues I encountered with this company. Do yourself a favor and use any other moving company. read less

I was quoted $1600.00 to move a 1 bedroom apt from FL to NC. A co worker also joined in a co - truck experience for a discount. She also has a 2 bedroom apt. Gateway quoted us $2900.00 with 35% reservation fee. Which we paid. They promised to do a flat rate as we were 2 people moving from same place to same place. (work transfer) Once they got to my apt. They started to count each item and told me we were only estimated on so many items. Which is not what TONY had quoted. Once they got to my co-workers they counted her items and said we were way over quote and increased our bill to $4200.00. NO LIE. We were told we owed 50% at this time to pay and was initially told we paid at delivery. We paid fee and was told our delivery was due the following Monday. Instead the Movers took our stuff to a shortage unit and let it sit for over 1 week while they dogged our calls. Hung up on us. Were extremely rude to us. Sunday we had to threaten them with a lawsuit and was told our stuff was in route once again.. We were told that payment was due in CASH or Money order only from USPS. Not a bank issued money order. We refused to pay them cash or money order and JOHN the rude dispatcher said well then your stuff will go back in storage and we will bill you another delivery fee and storage fee. We had to hustle to the bank and then to the USPS just to get money order. Once the movers got there. They were told to not unload anything until we paid them an addl $140.00 for having 2 separate homes to deliver too. Which again was discussed at the beginning of the setup on the contract and was told being on the 2nd floor had addl charges. Again they knew this when they estimated it. One of the movers quit once they got to NC. They hired a random person who showed up to help move and refused to set up anything or put it in the right bedrooms. Complete scam and steals money and refuses to honor agreements. I highly do not recommend them. They also subcontract other moving companies who are caught in the middle of a bad business transaction. read less

If I could give zero stars, I would. After getting multiple moving quotes, I went with this company because I was told EXPLICITLY that my stuff would be delivered the following weekend (7 days from pickup). He even gave me a window of 3 days it would be delivered. I had lower rated quotes, but this was a big decision making aspect for me.A few days after pickup I got a call. There was no date listed for my "first available delivery." Apparently they give you a window of 10-14 days STARTING at the "first available delivery date." Whoever told me the exact days it would be delivered APPARENTLY didn't have the authority to do so. So now, not only will I be getting my belongings 2 weeks later than expected, but 3 days were wasted because no one wrote down my "first available delivery" date. Not only were all these mistakes made by this company, but on top of that- there was absolutely zero sense of customer service. Instead of apologizing for the mistake and doing whatever necessary to get me my belongings, I was told it was MY fault for not asking if the original guy was correct in what he told me. I had no reason to doubt him...It's now been a week and a half since pick up. Got a call today that it "may" be delivered the end of next week. Making it 2 and a half weeks of sleeping on an air mattress with none of my clothes or belongings.I will never use this company again. Nor will anyone I know. read less

My husband and I hired Gateway Movers to move us from Kentucky to Arkansas. We got several estimates and Gateway's was the cheapest. We took the bait and paid an $800 deposit. Our original move-out date was 01/02/19. They pushed it back a day which was okay with us. On the second of January, the mover from Gateway called us and said that he and his crew would be at our apartment at 2 PM. Shortly after he changed the time to 6 PM, then finally 8 PM. We agreed to the move the following morning at 8 AM. The crew didn't show up until 10 AM. They arrived in a rented U-Haul truck, not a corporate truck, and this was one of many red flags. They promised to pad wrap furniture and they didn't do it. The crew had no supplies of their own--no tape, boxes, bubble wrap, etc.--and at one point were using my packing tape. They put a hole in one of our walls and broke off a huge piece of molding on our front door. Once things were loaded in the truck, the main crew member asked my husband to write a check for an additional $800 because we had supposedly taken up more space than expected. He asked that the check be written out to him personally rather than the company. A few hours after the movers left, we contacted someone in the administrative office to express our concerns. She (Amanda Bates!) told my husband that her supervisor would be in contact with us. We never received a call. Luckily, I put stop payments on both checks given to the head crew member before the money came out of my account. The current situation is that Gateway Moving and Storage has most of my belongings and will probably be holding them hostage until we pay some exorbitant rate to have them delivered. Do not fall for this scam! They have operated under multiple business names, including Eastcoast Moving & Storage and Infinity Van Lines. Save yourself a load of stress and do your research before hiring movers. I will warn as many people as possible to steer clear of this company. read less
